Craps is a game of chance or, as others prefer to call it, a game of luck. You carefully examine the table, squinting your eyes to make that killer bet that is going to yield more money, but this takes strategy since you don’t know what is going to turn up on the dice. You can’t just throw out a randomly large number and hope that you’re not going to lose everything. What you want to do is get the best odds, and have those odds to be in your favor, and play as smart as possible.

A little about buying odds

You are supplementing a pass bet when you play right and Buy Odds and your winnings will be based on the point. Let’s just say your Pass Bet is $5 and the come out roll has a point of ten. From this you will take $40, which includes your initial $5.00 bet, your $10 odds bet, and the winnings from that ($20).

Laying the odds

Laying the Odds supplements a ‘Don’t Pass Bet.’ A lot of casinos will only pay in denominations as low as $1. You will lose a small portion of that dollar. This is because anything in multiples of ten is not divisible by the numbers of 3 and 6 when it comes to laying numbers such as 3-to-2 and 6-to-5. For example, if you have a point of 5 or 9, you are going to lose $.67.

Now you can also lay Double Odds. If you place a wrong bet of $6 and you meant to bet $5, your Double Odds can be in multiples of $12, whereas if your pass bet is $5, your Double Odds will be multiples of $10.

Putting this strategy to the test

You will find that most players tend to be playing right and Buy the Odds because it looks like they are going to get more money. Yet it is through playing “wrong” and Laying Odds that makes the house edge minimal, but for those who have the patience when grinding out the winnings over an extended period of play, this may be your strategy. You will find that through betting wrong and placing those Double Odds that the 6’s and the 8’s are going to make a regular appearance and you will lose your bets. The 4’s and the 10’s are the safest, although they are the least likely to show up.

If you are the type who likes Don’t Pass Bets, you may like the playing “wrong” strategy, especially if you are a patient person who won’t walk away from the table. Now when it comes to Double Odds, it is better to not Lay Double in every round that you play. What you want to do is modify your play to suit your tastes. Everyone has different preferences, so you can expand on the fact that you like things done your own way and you can tailor your Craps game to go your way.
