Inside Outside Bets in Roulette

In the game of Roulette, players can place a wide variety of inside and outside bets. Payouts on these bets are based solely on the probability of that event happening, and usually each table has a set minimum and maximum bet. Although there are limits on bet amounts, there is no limit on how many numbers on which you can place bets. Bets can be placed in Roulette until the dealer announces that the table will accept no more bets.

Inside Bets

When you place an inside bet, you’re choosing the number or groups of numbers of the pocket in which the ball will fall based on position. You can choose to bet straight up, or you can bet the line between pockets or a group of pockets. Obviously, choosing the group of numbers will increase your chances of winning, but also your chance of losing if you’re wrong. There are several types of inside bets;

Straight: Placing a straight bet is a bet on a single number and the chip is placed in the middle of your chosen number square.
Split: You place a split bet by betting on two affixed numbers either up-down or left-right. For example a split bet would be on 25-26 or 30-33.
Street: A bet on a row of three numbers. Place your chips on the left or right, depending on the table layout. A street bet could be placed on 10-11-12.
Corner: Also called a square bet, this is when you bet on a square of numbers, like 20-21-23-24, and you’d place your chips at the intersection of those four squares.
Sixline: Sixline bets are placed on two affixed streets, and your chips should be placed in the middle of where two street bets would normally go.

Outside Bets

Outside bets are any bets made on pocket positioning, pocket colors and whether or not the numbers are even or odd. Typically, outside bets are placed in the areas surrounding the numbers or pockets, and these bets pay out based on the probability of the event occurring.

Even or Odd: A bet that the number that hits will be either even or odd. Place chips in the even or odd box before betting stops. If 0 or 00 hits, then, neither bet wins.
Red or Black: Bet placed that the number that hits will be red or black. Chips are placed in the box corresponding to your bet. Again, if the number that hits is 0 or 00, neither color wins.
High or Low: You bet on either 1-18 or 19-36 and place chips on appropriate box. Hitting 0 or 00 loses for both bets.
Group: This bet is placed on any of the three groups of 12 numbers. Place chips on 1st 12, 2nd 12, or 3rd 12 sections.
Column: Bet on entire column in a straight line. An example of this is 1 through 34 in a straight line.
